Halloween is just around the corner, It will be our first time to celebrate this season with our newest addition. I’m very thrilled that I will be able to attend more gatherings since I am already a mom. In the Philippines where I grew up, we have a very opposite tradition when it comes to celebrating Halloween. We pray for the souls of our Family who passed away, light some candles and visit their grave. I know it sounds unusual but that’s really the way we celebrate it. Before my son arrives I’ve always wanted to dress up for Halloween but I don’t see any reason for that. The day I found out I was pregnant the first thing came to my mind was more events to attend or “I can finally do this” without having an excuse. As a person who remains kid at heart, of course I’m excited. Inevitably will always teach our son a little of our tradition so he knows a little of our roots. As a first time parent, I’ve researched where to go for Halloween (for kids) here in Oahu. I know most of you know if you’re coming from other states, Hawaii residents can only do so much here. The longest drive here is at least 1-2 hr. drive to go around the island.
Where to go/What to do for Halloween? Few tips to help you plan your Halloween Day.
1. Fall Harvest Festival-
Go pumpkin patch with your family. As a new parent even though our son is only 8 months old we want him to understand why are we celebrating Halloween. We also want him to be familiar with occasions like this. There are two location here where you can to go for pumpkin picking in Oahu. One is located in Waimanalo if you’re from the North area and the other location is in Kapolei West.
2. Family Camp at Camp Erdman-
If you enjoy games and activities this is the perfect place for you and your family. from trick-or-treating to costume contest and many more! Camp Erdman is located in Waialua, this is the area were I'm from, luckily. If you live far and planning to go there It’s gonna be worth the drive because Waialua have other things to offer such as restaurants, natural beaches, and a place where you can enjoy and relax. I love the idea of trunk-n-treat. It’s unique and fun especially for kids. Kids go trick or treating at the park where cars are parked. A different tradition where kids can enjoy.
4. Go trick-or-treating-
Before my baby arrives, I used to walk with my little sister from neighbor to neighbor to go trick-or-treating which last about an hour or so. Her goal is to fill up her bag with candies and she would share it with me. How cute! Trick or treat is one of my favorite activity to do.
5. Dress up for (Halloween Costume)-

6. Take many pictures as you can-
Take pictures with your family, document it, take note of the things your family has done, and a whole lot more. they are my favorite things to do.
